Accent is 20 something!

Accent Photography Ltd. began its life in a strip mall in southwest Calgary, AB, Canada in 1979 providing high-quality, creative portraiture of families and children for wall decor and gifts. We slowly extended our skills to reach a wider audience as demand from clients overlapped into other photographic fields and we started creating portraits outside Canada. In 1989 we bought Old Masters Studio, a long-standing purveyor of high end portraiture, as well as Classic Restorations, Calgary’s premier photo retouching and restoration house. In 1999, these two companies were brought under the umbrella of Accent and the three now operate in concert. Today Accent is a full-service photographic specialist as a photo studio / retoucher / framer / custom lab.


Lawrence De Pape MPA, owner and Chief Photographer

has been creating beautiful images for Accent for over 20 years. An architect as well as photographic designer, he is skilled in the use of basic design elements to create striking images that suit the subject and environment.

A Canadian of Belgian ancestry, Lawrence offers a contemporary approach in his imagery while keeping closely attuned to the timeless rules of composition and lighting laid down by the great painters of the old world. He’s a contemporary master offering premium photographic imagery to discerning clients.

Lawrence is Accredited by the Professional Photographers of Canada in six separate areas of photography and holds all three degrees of PPOC, including Master of Photographic Arts (MPA), the highest attainable designation in Canada.

Technical Stuff

Just for the curious, we tend to use medium format film (agfa) and cameras (Hasselblad) for most of our work although some of the commercial imaging is done on 35mm (Nikon) and scenics or architectural jobs may be shot on 4x5 film.
