Frequently Asked Questions

Question: How does this portrait thing work?

Answer: The short answer is when you call we chat; we plan with you based on options we offer and goals or needs you have; we plan a session uniquely yours; photograph you or your gang in a chosen environment; you select from a presentation of a variety of images; we make beautiful photographic prints by hand, frame them, deliver them and you’re happy ever after.... Oh! That was the long version. The short answer is, “Call us!”

Question: Why does a professional studio charge more than the department stores?

Answer: There are actually several answers. The first is that the mass market outlets you find in department stores offer a cookie cutter approach that’s based on predictability and volume. And, unfortunately, there’s no discussion or planning or personalizing of the photo session. Nor is there any likelihood of creative posing or lighting. All their photos tend to look the same. Their value lies in volume production reflected in the price and the level of convenience. And you are usually pressured to buy extras...

A professional studio is not working in great volume and can therefore spend more time with you and create for you alone. It has the time to be more creative and more responsive to your personal needs and you get to work with their people on the process. Their photographers tend to be better educated in things photographic, more experienced and usually have more creative license. In short, there’s more for you.

Question: Do you do framing of items other than for portraits?

Answer: Absolutely! Because we like to offer a complete product we have been framing our portraits for over 20 years. This has taught us all the techniques for framing most anything else. Consequently, we welcome paintings, posters, prints, art works, souvenirs, certificates or any other thing you might want to hang on a wall. And the pricing is competitive!

Question:
How much is an 8x10?

Answer: Whatever you’re willing to pay for it! That’s kind of a smart answer to the question of why everyone charges a little differently and why it is of little help to shop something as precious as your portrait by price alone. The fact is that the paper itself is not worth much. It’s primarily your satisfaction that determines the ultimate value of a portrait. So it’s the planning, the creative input, the finishing work, the service you receive and, in short, the skills we bring to the job that make the image worth more than the paper on which it’s printed. We invest substantially in you and your cost is an investment in your satisfaction.

Question: Do you create Boudoir or “intimate” portraiture for women?

Answer: The quick answer is yes and we call it Glamour. However, the field of so-called Boudoir Portraits has a somewhat tarnished reputation simply because of some not-very-professional photographers. The Glamour or Boudoir session is, at its essence, an special portrait intended for yourself or your significant other. The type or style of image can vary greatly from simple high fashion glamorous head shots to full length nudes. A collection of images from our Glamour Session often contains a great deal of variety in posing, clothing and style. Our aim is to highlight your best features while working in a comfortable no pressure environment. Our only goal is to make you look great!

Question:
I’m not photogenic at all. The photos I’ve had taken are awful. Why should I come to you?

Answer:
The good Lord has fortunately made each of us who and what we are. He’s also given some of us the skills to create beauty, wonder and magic. We think that entitles everyone to a great portrait. And we actually guarantee that you will be happy with yours. We’ll even try to make it fun! What more can you ask for?

Stay tuned..... There’s more to come!
